Vålerenga Idrettsforening was founded on July 29th 1913 in the backyard at Vålerengagata 29. This had already precedent Spark, later Vålerenga Fotboldklub, around 1989. But this day Vålerenga Fotboldklub called to an extraordinary general-assembly to form an athletic association for Vålerenga. The 27 men who met agreed to the name of Spring and that the club should have football, skiing, athletics and wrestling as activities. Vålerenga Fotball is the only part of the club that has existed in all the decades since. The following year Spring changed its name to Vålerengens Idrettsforening.
